Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lighting Engineer to join our Lighting & Energy Solutions team in the UK. You will design lighting schemes, prepare drawings and technical notes, and coordinate with manufacturers and contractors to support projects from feasibility to implementation.

The role offers hybrid working across the UK, with CPD and training opportunities, and a path toward Chartership. You will work with public and private clients across sectors including urban realm and transportation.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in lighting design software (Lighting Reality or Dialux) and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of external lighting standards and regulations.
• Awareness of electrical design and lighting maintenance operations.
• Experience from conception to construction issue in lighting design.
• Knowledge of central management systems.
• Able to work independently or in a team with strong communication and organisation.
• Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
• Solid knowledge of external lighting products.
• Eng Tech membership or equivalent professional recognition.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with Lighting and Energy Solutions team, stakeholders and clients.
• Produce detailed design layouts and supporting documentation per QA and client needs.
• Support feasibility reports, option studies, and specifications.
• Engage with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers.
• Coordinate with contractors including site support and RFIs/TQs.
• Perform non-intrusive site visits to develop lighting assessments and clearance drawings.
• Contribute to project proposals and monitor progress against milestones and budget.
• Engage Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients to build relationships.
• Mentor and support Early Career Professionals; represent WSP in the lighting industry.
