Job summary

WSP is seeking a Lighting Designer to join a growing, multi-disciplinary team. You will coordinate with clients and internal teams, producing detailed layouts and technical notes while ensuring QA compliance and value for money.

You will engage with manufacturers, support proposal development, and mentor junior staff. This role offers broad project exposure across commercial, urban realm and infrastructure sectors within the UK.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Lighting Reality or Dialux and AutoCAD.
• Strong knowledge of external lighting standards and regulations.
• Experience in lighting design from conception to construction issue.
• Ability to coach junior team members and support career development.
• EngTech registration with the Engineering Council and actively working towards IEng status.

Responsibilities

• Liaise with Lighting and Energy Solutions teams, wider design teams, stakeholders and clients.
• Produce detailed design layouts, engineering drawings and support documentation per QA and client requirements.
• Prepare feasibility reports, option reports and specifications.
• Engage with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers.
• Coordinate with contractors including site support, RFIs and TQs.
• Complete non-intrusive site visits to support lighting assessments and drawings.
• Support development of proposals and progress against milestones and budgets.
• Liaise with Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients.
• Analyse briefs and offer expert guidance and tailored support.
• Guide junior team members and Early Career Professionals on their career journeys.
• Represent WSP within the lighting industry and drive business development.
