Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Lighting Engineer to join the Lighting & Energy Solutions team in the UK. You will lead lighting design from concept through to construction, liaise with clients and multi-disciplinary teams, and contribute to project proposals and development.

You will mentor junior colleagues, coordinate with authorities and contractors, and stay updated on external lighting standards and CMS systems while supporting business development and client relationships.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Lighting Reality, Dialux or AutoCAD for lighting design.
• Strong understanding of external lighting standards, guidance and regulations.
• Awareness of electrical design and lighting maintenance operations.
• Experience from conception through to issue for construction.
• Knowledge of central management systems.
• Able to work independently and in teams with strong communication.
• Capable of coaching junior members.
• Experience in Local Government or Strategic Road Network sectors.
• Know external lighting products and Eng Tech registration progress toward IEng.

Responsibilities

• Liaison with Lighting & Energy Solutions team, multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders and clients.
• Produce detailed design layouts, engineering drawings and support documentation per QA and client requirements.
• Prepare feasibility and technical notes, optioneering reports, and specifications.
• Engage with luminaire, column, controls and electrical manufacturers.
• Coordinate with contractors, site support, RFIs and TQs.
• Complete non-intrusive site visits to support lighting assessments and clearance drawings.
• Support development of proposals and monitor progress against milestones and budget.
• Liaise with Local Authority and Strategic Road Network clients.
• Analyse client briefs and provide expert guidance.
• Mentor junior staff and support Early Career Professionals.
• Represent WSP in the lighting industry and drive business development.
