Job summary

Tamworth Library in Tamworth is looking for a part-time Library Assistant to deliver a first-class customer-focused service in a busy public library environment. The role covers 18.5 hours per two-week rota, including weekends and some evenings, with travel to other libraries as needed.

You’ll help customers with information and digital services, run activities for all ages, promote events and handle cash. You may need to travel to Burntwood and Lichfield libraries for cover.

Qualifications

Job description

A great opportunity has arisen for someone to join our team at Tamworth Library, delivering a first class customer focused service in a busy and demanding public library environment.

The role provides an essential service delivering a range of library services to the public including face-to-face customer enquiries, joining new members, helping people to find information, helping people to use the computers, delivering events/activities and delivering other county council services such as processing bus passes and blue badges.

The post will be required to work weekends and evenings and will be required to travel to other libraries to provide cover, including Burntwood and Lichfield Libraries as part of the District Team, plus on occasion libraries in other districts.

You will be working a two week rota:

Library Assistant 18.5 Hours

Week 1 Week 2

Mon 12.00pm - 5.00pm Mon 12.00pm - 5.00pm

Tues 8.15am - 1.00pm Tues 2.00pm - 7.00pm

Wed 9.00am - 1.00pm Wed 9.00am - 5.00pm (1hr lunch)

Sat 8.45am-4.00pm (1hr lunch)

Main Responsibilities

The Ideal Candidate

The minimum criteria that will be used to shortlist for this role will be:

  • Good time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • A passion for working with and helping customers, demonstrating experience of serving customers of all ages from across the whole community, face to face.
  • An interest in working with children, delivering activities such as rhyme, craft sessions and story times.
  • Ability to travel effectively to cover at other libraries sometimes at short notice.
  • Experience of using computer-based information systems and data entry with an attention to detail.
