Job summary

University of Bristol’s Electrical Energy Management Group is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer or Experimental Officer to support the Technical Services team in laboratories. You will induct researchers, ensure electrical safety compliance, and help design, assemble and operate novel electrical research systems.

The role requires hands-on work with high-power electrical systems, strong safety knowledge, and the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with high-power electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety regulations and practices.
• Ability to explain technical concepts to varied audiences.
• Experience or interest in specifying and purchasing specialist electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Inducting and training academic researchers in practical electrical fundamentals and safety.
• Assist in meeting electrical safety requirements per Electricity at Work Regulations 1989.
• Contribute to design, risk assessment, assembly, commissioning and operation of novel electrical research apparatus.
• Supervise general laboratory activities to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
