Job summary

UK Atomic Energy Authority is seeking a Senior Electrical Power Engineer to provide technical leadership on complex LV, MV and HV distribution projects. You’ll lead design, calculations and documentation to ensure safe, reliable power systems for fusion facilities and high-power computing programs.

You’ll specify earthing systems compliant with BS EN standards, perform detailed analyses, and supervise teams to deliver milestones within budget.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical Engineering and professional experience in electrical engineering with Incorporated or Chartered status or active progression towards it.
• Extensive post-qualification experience in power distribution, including LV/MV networks.
• Experience designing, installing and testing LV/MV distribution networks and issuing isolations.

Responsibilities

• Lead medium-to-large LV and MV distribution projects from concept through detailed design and delivery.
• Design and develop HV/MV/LV earthing systems with soil resistivity surveys, soil modelling, earth grid calculations, EPR, touch and step voltage assessments, transferred-potential studies, fault-current distribution and mitigation.
• Prepare and review earthing calculations, models, drawings, specifications and test requirements per BS EN 50522, BS EN IEC 61936-1, BS 7430 and ENA/DNO requirements.
• Provide technical authority for LV, MV and HV distribution networks across projects.
• Deliver power systems studies including load flow, protection coordination, short-circuit and power quality analysis.
• Design and assess electrical distribution systems using engineering software and first-principles calculations.
