Job summary

BT Group in Birmingham is seeking a Senior Java Full-Stack Engineer to design, build and maintain scalable microservices and APIs. You will work in a high-performing agile team to deliver backend services using Java 17, Spring Boot and cloud-native technologies, with opportunities to contribute to frontend work using React where needed.

The role is hybrid with three days in the office and two from home, based in the Birmingham Snowhill area.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of enterprise-scale software engineering experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with Java 17, Spring Boot and microservices.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
• Good understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns and best practices.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and tooling such as Jenkins.
• Experience using Git-based source control systems.
• Good understanding of cloud-native application development.
• Strong debugging, troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable microservices and backend applications using Java 17 and Spring Boot.
• Build, enhance and support RESTful APIs that power BT's digital products and customer experiences.
• Write clean, efficient and maintainable code aligned to engineering standards and best practices.
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, technical guidance and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, analysts, designers and engineers to deliver business outcomes.
• Contribute to front-end development activities using React and modern web technologies where required.
• Ensure solutions are secure, scalable, resilient and aligned to enterprise architecture standards.
• Support CI/CD practices, automation and DevOps ways of working to improve delivery efficiency.
• Lead technical discussions and influence engineering decisions within your squad and across the wider engineering community.
• Mentor junior engineers and help build a high-performing, collaborative engineering culture.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and drive resolution through strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Contribute to the adoption of cloud-native technologies, modern engineering practices and continuous innovation.
