Hawk-Eye Innovations in the United Kingdom is seeking a Principal Software Engineer (Full-Stack, backend‑leaning) to own backend architecture, data pipelines, and API delivery for a new sports tech product. This senior role requires end‑to‑end ownership across the stack, with a focus on backend and data work while contributing to frontend as needed.

You will design low‑latency data pipelines, stream processing with Kafka, AWS services, and API contracts for live products and historical insights.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering experience in Java with production systems.
• Proven ability to build low-latency, high-throughput data pipelines.
• Experience with REST/WebSocket APIs and frontend coordination.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and event-driven architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services and APIs with latency and throughput in mind.
• Own data storage and pipeline architecture integrating streaming infrastructure.
• Implement authentication/authorization per IAM approach.
• Provide technical direction to frontend and align data contracts.
• Collaborate with data science engineers on data contracts.
• Lead technical decisions for scalable, maintainable platform.
• Contribute to engineering leadership of the team.
