Job summary

Hawk-Eye Innovations is seeking a Principal Software Engineer (Full-Stack with backend focus) to lead backend architecture for a new sports technology product. You will own data pipelines, APIs, and cloud infrastructure, while guiding frontend reviews and collaborating with data science teams.

The role demands strong Java experience, proficiency with low-latency systems, and a stance on end-to-end delivery. A hybrid work model applies, with in-office days in multiple locations.

Qualifications

• Strong backend engineering background with production experience in Java.
• Experience building low-latency, high-throughput systems.
• Familiar with API contracts and OpenAPI or similar.
• Proficient in cloud infrastructure and event-driven architectures (Kafka/AWS).
• Mentors engineers and collaborates with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services and APIs (REST/WebSocket) with emphasis on latency and throughput.
• Own data storage and pipeline architecture, including streaming integration.
• Implement authentication/authorization per cloud IAM approach.
• Review frontend work and align data shapes with React/TypeScript engineers.
• Collaborate with CV/DS engineers to define data contracts.
• Participate in architectural decisions for scalable, maintainable systems.
• Provide technical leadership to the engineering team.
