Job summary

Salt in London is seeking a Senior Java Engineer for a 12-month contract focused on server-side delivery and migration to an event-based, service-oriented architecture. You will join an Agile team and contribute to architecture decisions while delivering robust IT solutions.

The role emphasizes hands-on Java development, mentoring juniors, and ensuring compliance with standards across platforms, with around eight on-site days per month.

Qualifications

• Strong core Java experience across design, development, testing and deployment.
• Experience building services/micro-services in Java.
• Hands-on with Docker and Kubernetes for containerised services.
• Proficient on Unix/Linux and Kafka ecosystem.
• Familiar with TDD/BDD and modern cloud development.
• Experience in Agile teams and delivering end-to-end IT solutions.

Responsibilities

• Work in an Agile team to migrate legacy app to event-based, service-oriented architecture.
• Lead delivery of end-to-end IT solutions meeting functional and non-functional requirements.
• Ensure adherence to engineering standards and design guidelines.
• Coordinate walkthroughs with delivery teams to ensure cross-platform consistency.
• Hands-on development and coaching of junior staff on new technologies.
• Support development of more junior colleagues and share knowledge.
