Job summary

Zepz in London seeks a Senior Backend Engineer to build scalable services that detect and prevent financial crime across WorldRemit and Sendwave. You will own design, reliability, and cross-team collaboration, shaping the tech that underpins regulator-facing systems.

You’ll combine strong Java/Spring experience with Kafka, PostgreSQL, and AWS, while exploring AI-enabled workflows. A proactive, on-call mindset and commitment to high quality code will be essential.

Qualifications

• Several years building backend services at scale.
• Strong JVM development with Java and Spring Boot.
• Proficiency in Java; Kotlin or Python a plus.
• Experience designing REST/gRPC APIs, streaming systems (Kafka) and PostgreSQL.
• Ability to work with AI in a safe, structured environment.
• Experience with monitoring and on-call production support.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services that generate, enrich, and route AML/FinCrime alerts.
• Build agentic workflows to investigate alerts end-to-end.
• Own reliability, monitoring, and on-call response for production services.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve tooling and architecture.
• Ensure auditability and explainability of automated decisions for regulators.
