Job summary

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group is seeking an experienced Band 7 Infection Prevention and Control Nurse to provide specialist IPC leadership across clinical areas and to promote safe patient care.

You will lead infection surveillance, audits, education and the implementation of IPC policies, working with ward managers, microbiology and external services. The role requires at least 2 years’ Band 6 IPC nursing experience and an autonomous working style.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years in an acute setting at Band 6, IPC Nurse.
• Experience of audits relating to infection control.
• Experience designing, delivering and evaluating training programmes for staff.
• Car driver with own transport.
• Experience working autonomously.
• Experience of trialling new products and making recommendations.
• Experience of managing a team.

Responsibilities

• Provide specialist IPC advice, support and leadership across the Trust.
• Undertake infection surveillance, risk assessment, investigation and outbreak management.
• Conduct clinical and environmental IPC audits and monitor action plans.
• Provide expert IPC guidance on standards, policies and clinical practice.
• Deliver IPC education and training to clinical and non-clinical staff.
• Support implementation of national guidance and Trust IPC policies.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies to promote safe practice.
• Contribute to IPC reporting, surveillance and quality improvement.
• Provide operational leadership to junior IPC team members.
• Work flexibly across sites according to service needs.
