Job summary

Wood PLC is seeking a Senior Internal Auditor to join its Internal Audit team on a permanent basis. The role offers hybrid working options with UK hub offices in Aberdeen, Reading, Glasgow or Stockton and potential remote arrangements.

You will deliver risk-informed audits, assess governance, risk management and controls, and engage with stakeholders across regions to add value and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant technical discipline.
  • Proven experience with internal audits and risk assessment.
  • Experience across multiple geographies and travel up to 50%.
  • Strong understanding of governance and internal control frameworks.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver assigned audits in line with Internal Audit methodology and the audit plan
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the audit programme and working papers
  • Document audit evidence to a high standard and within agreed timescales
  • Where designated, coordinate end-to-end internal audit activities
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of assigned audits through risk identification, objective sampling, system data evaluation and auditee engagement
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, as well as functional networks across the business
  • Promote Internal Audit's role as a trusted advisor while maintaining independence and objectivity
  • Accurately present evidence-based and verifiable audit findings to auditees and key stakeholders
  • Support the timely delivery of clear, concise, and comprehensive audit reports through collaborative team working
  • Track and monitor the implementation of agreed management actions
  • Support investigations in accordance with Wood's Ethics Investigation Protocol
  • Proactively contribute and partake in team meetings
  • Support the continued development of a forward-looking, value-adding Internal Audit function
  • Drive continuous improvement, innovation, and efficiency across audit practices
  • Learn from and collaborate with colleagues to develop personal skills, capability, and knowledge

Wood has an exciting opportunity for an experienced and driven Senior Internal Auditor to join our Internal Audit team on a permanent basis.

The role will preferably be based at one of our UK hub offices in Aberdeen, Reading, Glasgow or Stockton, however, remote working may be considered for the right candidate.

The Role

As a Senior Internal Auditor, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, risk-informed audits that provide independent assurance over Wood's governance, risk management, and internal control frameworks.

You will contribute to the planning, coordination and execution of assigned audits across a diverse range of business and functional areas, engaging with stakeholders at all levels to assess the effectiveness of processes and controls.

Working closely with Internal Audit colleagues and business stakeholders across multiple regions, you will support the delivery of the audit plan, providing independent assurance over the adequacy and effectiveness of Wood's internal control environment. You will communicate audit findings clearly and effectively, ensuring agreed actions are satisfactorily implemented and deliver lasting value to the business.

Expected
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant function/technical discipline, or significant relevant professional experience
  • Proven professional experience, with demonstrated career progression in project management or technical delivery of projects, with a strong understanding of field-based HSSEQ requirements
  • Extensive experience within a specialist function such as Project Management, Engineering or Construction, combined with a broader understanding of business functions such as Supply Chain and HSSEQ
  • Proficient in evaluating data and internal controls for compliance, with experience delivering value-added audit outcomes
  • International business experience, including working across multiple geographies
  • Willingness and ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 50%) to support audit delivery, including site visits (both onshore and offshore)
  • Experience contributing to and achieving challenging performance objectives targets
  • Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal, and active listening
  • Highly motivated, with a collaborative approach and proven ability to work effectively within a team
  • Strong organisational, planning, and execution skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement, professional development, and technical excellence
Desirable
  • Member of Technical Institution of professional engineering or recognised industry body
  • Lead Auditor Qualification by recognised industry body
  • Investigation/Root Cause Analysis trained
