Job description

RSK Land Development and Engineering (LDE) Ltd, part of the RSK Group of companies, has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Hydrologist to join our growing team in one of our offices across the UK. The role will be remote with occasional visits to the office where necessary.

RSK LDE has a highly experienced team made up of professional civil and structural engineering staff with many years of experience in the assessment, design, and construction of major development projects. LDE’s engineers typically evaluate the land use constraints in support of the site acquisition and planning process. This work would then continue into detailed design, obtaining statutory approvals, procuring, and supervising the site infrastructure and remediation projects.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Support and strengthen RSK Land & Development Engineering Ltd (LDE) in hydrology including undertaking Flood Risk Assessments, concept and detail drainage designs, Environmental Impact Assessment chapters on hydrology, and sustainable engineering solutions to provide water quality improvements.
  • Development of Flood Risk Assessment, EIA, and outline drainage assessment reports.
  • Understand role within the hydrology team including budgets and timescales available for undertaking required works.
  • Support with incoming enquiries, tenders, details, and projects in accordance with LDE QA procedures.
  • Maintain and develop technical capability through Continuing Professional Development (CPD), including mentoring and guiding junior staff.
  • Financial management of costs on hydrology projects managed within agreed fee budgets.
  • Keep up to date with changes in legislation, best practice, and relevant policies.
  • Understand the required programme, coordination, communication, and LDE involvement within projects to ensure satisfactory delivery.
  • Maintain and develop technical or management capability through CPD, attending internal and external seminars regularly.
  • Attend training seminars when relevant and present key points to colleagues.
  • Undertake calculations and designs using an efficient and rationalised process to the latest design standards.
  • Assist in the issue of project documents (email, extra-net, and postal).
  • Be aware of project deadlines and allocate time to work items.
  • Use experience to advise and mentor more junior members of the team.

Key Skills:

  • Member or working towards membership of relevant Institute (CIWEM).
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with the design team and external clients, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experienced in the use of:
    • Microsoft products including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • FEH, WINFAP FEH, Flood Modeller, TuFLOW, HEC-RAS, and other flood modelling software.
    • AutoCAD and WinDES.
    • Awareness of ground modelling software such as PDS.
