Job summary

Williams Racing in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead hydraulic and pneumatic systems across the powertrain and chassis. You will own concepts through prototype, testing and race deployment, focusing on reliability and performance.

You'll apply deep understanding of hydraulic/pneumatic design, select pumps, valves and actuators, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating across disciplines to push innovation in F1 technology.

Qualifications

• Deep understanding of hydraulic and pneumatic design.
• Hands-on gearbox/powertrain hydraulic experience.
• Fluent in CAD; Siemens NX preferred.
• Motorsport, aerospace, or precision engineering background.
• Strong communication and cross-discipline collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead concept, design, and detailing of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components across powertrain and chassis.
• Design and integrate gearbox hydraulic systems including actuation and lubrication.
• Perform stress, flow, and sizing calculations with clear documentation.
• Conduct design reviews with Principal Engineer and Head of Department.
• Take end-to-end ownership from design through test and race deployment.
• Support design checking and peer reviews to meet performance specs.
• Drive innovation and continuous improvement in hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and share fluid system design expertise.
