Job summary

SSE plc is seeking a Lead Principal Engineer – HVDC Plant to lead technical governance across a multi-project offshore portfolio. You will shape standards, drive issue resolution, and ensure engineering excellence while aligning with regulatory requirements and programme objectives.

You will lead a team of specialist engineers, champion collaboration, and promote best practices as SSE advances its HVDC capabilities and offshore delivery strategy in the UK.

Qualifications

• Proven track record delivering complex HVDC Converter engineering projects.
• Strong initiative with collaborative decision-making and influencing outcomes.
• Deep technical knowledge of HVDC Plant engineering, CDM & ESQCR, and industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and accountability for HVDC Plant engineering initiatives across multi-project offshore portfolio.
• Drive proactive resolution of technical issues, balancing risk and delivery certainty.
• Guide and nurture a team of engineers, promoting inclusive culture and career development.
• Promote health, safety and environmental excellence in line with CDM, ESQCR and SSEN standards.
• Foster continuous improvement and engage with industry forums to shape best practice.
• Engage with technology providers to understand new solutions and feed into future project pipelines.
