Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Cable System Design Engineer to join our expanding Transmission & Distribution team in the UK. You will lead full lifecycle HV/EHV cable design projects from feasibility to commissioning, collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams and external stakeholders across international projects.

You will review complex cable designs, perform thermal and electrical analyses, and ensure compliance with IEC, CIGR, and NG-TP standards while supporting installation and FAT/SAT

Qualifications

• Experience in Cable System Design Engineering for HV/EHV transmission and distribution projects. FEED experience is essential.
• Familiarity with IEC, CIGR, NG-TPs and other international standards preferred.

Responsibilities

• Deliver full lifecycle cable engineering packages from feasibility through to detailed design, installation support and commissioning.
• Review complex HV cable system designs, including route development, burial risk assessments, thermal, electromagnetic, and mechanical calculations.
• Undertake cable rating and system studies including ampacity, short circuit forces, thermal stability, and electromagnetic interference analysis.
• Carry out cable pulling, jointing, cleating, and installation feasibility studies.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, substation and OHL teams to ensure fully integrated solutions.
• Conduct third-party inspections and support FAT/SAT, installation, and commissioning activities.
