Job summary

HSE Recruitment is seeking a Senior Health Safety and Environment Manager in Newcastle upon Tyne. The role leads a strategic HSE function across multiple sites including head office, retail, manufacturing and distribution.

You will shape the safety culture, influence the board and drive improvements with a hands-on leadership style. You will manage ISO 45001/14001 compliance, develop capability in the HSE team, and ensure effective governance and risk controls while reporting to the Board.

Qualifications

• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent (including professionals in process)
• Experience with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 and risk management principles
• Multi-site management across supply chain/retail
• Coaching and mentoring to grow a team
• Strategic HSE leadership within a fast-paced business
• Senior-level credibility with operational understanding
• Calm under crisis and task prioritisation

Responsibilities

• Strategically lead and evolve the HSE strategy aligning with growth and risk management
• Grow and empower the HSE team and wider community
• Oversee the Management System, governance and risk controls
• Influence senior stakeholders and challenge where needed
• Use data and trend analysis to drive performance and planning
• Provide leadership on H&S legislation and compliance across sites
• Drive continuous improvement in HSE via reporting and interventions
• Maintain oversight of risk profile and organisational learning
• Lead the SHE function and build accountability across the organisation
• Partner with stakeholders to drive continuous improvement in SHE performance
