Job summary

Defra is seeking a Senior HR Business Partner to join its HR Project Delivery Team on a contract basis (Inside IR35) up to 31 March 2027. The role involves remote work with attendance at a nationwide UK hub when required, providing strategic HR leadership across high-impact initiatives.

You will shape and deliver HR projects from scoping to implementation, collaborating with HR Partners, unions and senior leaders to drive people-focused outcomes.

Qualifications

• Strong HR generalist experience with strategic leadership in HR
• Proven track record delivering HR projects within change/transformation
• Experience leading cross-functional or matrix project teams
• Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and unions
• Ability to establish governance, plans and delivery frameworks

Responsibilities

• Lead HR projects and strategic HR initiatives across the Defra group
• Provide senior HR leadership, direction and advice on complex programmes
• Manage scoping, design, implementation and handover to BAU
• Establish governance structures, plans and delivery timelines
• Engage senior stakeholders, trade unions and business partners
• Drive collaboration across HR and non-HR teams to deliver outcomes
• Identify risks and dependencies and manage prioritisation
• Support organisational change and HR transformation efforts
