Job summary

UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) is seeking a Senior Research HPC Engineer to advance its HPC infrastructure in London. The role focuses on scalable scientific computing, containerised environments, and collaboration with researchers to accelerate discovery.

You will lead and support the provisioning, deployment, and operation of HPC services, with emphasis on reproducibility, security, and efficient workflows. The position is based in London with a London Allowance.

Qualifications

• Degree in a computing/scientific research/engineering subject with a significant computational component, or equivalent skills and experience.

Responsibilities

• Meet regularly with Heads of IT and Bioinformatics to develop and deliver Scientific Computing infrastructure and resilient services.
• Work with researchers to translate experimental requirements into scalable computational solutions
• Support researchers in utilising HPC, triaging issues and improving the platform
• Maintain reproducible runtime environments, container images, and workflow-supporting services
• Coordinate and provide HPC user training and onboarding
• Ensure projects are managed within defined goals, costs, and risks
• Monitor and report on the Institute’s Scientific Computing provisions
• Design communication strategies for stakeholder engagement, including user-group meetings
• Develop training, runbooks, SOPs, and onboarding materials
• Network with similar organisations to benchmark services and plan cost-effective delivery of goals
