Job summary

UKRI International in London is seeking a Senior Research HPC Engineer to design, implement and support high‑performance computing infrastructure for scientific computing. You will collaborate with Heads of IT and Bioinformatics to translate experimental needs into scalable, reproducible computational solutions and maintain resilient services across bioinformatics, AI/ML, data processing, and simulations.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience supporting and administering Linux-based HPC systems.
• Experience in configuring and maintaining multi-queue job scheduling systems (SLURM).
• Experience with scientific software build/deploy systems (Spack/EasyBuild/Lmod/conda).
• Containerisation and virtualization deployment/management (Docker, Singularity).
• Scripting (Bash) and Git/GitHub for reproducible research.
• Experience with automation tools (Ansible, Terraform).
• Awareness of HPC security best practices and policies.

Responsibilities

• Meet with IT/Bioinformatics leads to plan scalable HPC services.
• Translate research needs into reusable computational solutions.
• Triaged HPC user issues and improved platform usability.
• Maintain container runtimes and reproducible workflows.
• Develop runbooks, SOPs, and onboarding materials.
• Monitor HPC usage and report service metrics.
• Coordinate with Head of IT on disaster recovery for HPC.
