Job summary

Kier Group is seeking a Senior Technology Design Engineer to lead highways technology design across ITS, communications and power systems. You will own outputs from concept to implementation, ensuring buildable, right-first-time solutions and governance-compliant designs.

Based in Manchester/Newcastle/Birmingham or Basingstoke with hybrid working, the role requires strong leadership, National Highways standards knowledge, and delivery excellence across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• HNC/Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Communications or Technology Engineering or equivalent field.
• Significant experience in highways or infrastructure technology design.
• Proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activities.
• Strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworks.

Responsibilities

• Lead technology design packages across ITS, communications and power systems from concept through implementation.
• Own design outputs, ensuring buildable and right-first-time solutions.
• Act as technical authority in design assurance, leading reviews and gateway approvals.
• Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways standards and industry guidance; manage technical risk.
• Provide SME leadership across ITS, networks and smart infrastructure systems; drive multidisciplinary integration.
• Lead workshops and stakeholder engagement with clients and partners; support bids and proposals.
• Mentor and develop engineers to build team capability and performance.
