Job summary

The American Society of Civil Engineers is recruiting a Senior Engineer - Highways Design & Construction on a contract basis to lead pre-construction, final design, and delivery across highways and traffic projects.

You will oversee construction-ready information, manage risks, liaise with stakeholders, and ensure schemes meet standards before handover.

This role emphasizes leadership, technical excellence, and delivery within time and budget constraints.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering; ICE or CIHT membership or working towards.
• Significant highways and traffic management project delivery experience.
• Experience reviewing designs, specifications and construction documentation.
• Client-side project management experience on large schemes is preferred.
• Budgeting, forecasting and project reporting experience.
• Stakeholder engagement and public consultation experience.
• Evidence of continuing professional development.

Responsibilities

• Lead design finalisation and pre-construction delivery of schemes.
• Coordinate drawings, specifications, schedules and construction details.
• Ensure designs meet national standards and regulatory requirements.
• Manage contractor and consultant teams and chair meetings.
• Oversee traffic management, risk mitigation and approvals.
• Monitor budgets, programmes and performance targets.
• Provide senior leadership and frequent project reporting.
