Job summary

SYSTRA is seeking a Principal Engineer (Highways) to lead design and delivery on a varied programme of highway and transportation projects. You will manage budgets, allocate resources, and coordinate across disciplines to meet client expectations, regulatory standards, and project milestones.

With a focus on feasibility through to detailed design, you will mentor engineers, liaise with clients, and drive collaborative delivery while upholding SYSTRA’s standards of excellence and safety.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil Engineering required or equivalent
• Chartered status or working toward professional qualification
• Extensive highways/design consultancy experience

Responsibilities

• Lead design on highways and development infrastructure projects
• Coordinate with disciplines and stakeholders
• Manage budgets, resources, planning and programming
• Mentor junior engineers
• Ensure compliance with standards (DMRB, MfS, TSM, Local Authority guides)
• Prepare technical outputs, drawings, specs and cost estimates
• Support client relationships and business development
• Ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery
• Represent the team externally and communicate effectively
