Job summary

North Somerset Council seeks a dedicated Senior Engineer to lead planning, scheduling and delivery of inspections for the highway structures portfolio, including bridges and retaining walls. You will assess condition, identify defects and prioritise maintenance to maintain safety and long-term performance.

You will coordinate surveys, supervise works, and ensure compliance with Eurocodes, DMRB and MCHW while managing budgets and stakeholder needs.

Qualifications

• Educated to a minimum BEng or BSc in Civil Engineering or equivalent level HNC/HND with substantial civil/structural experience.
• Experience in General & Principal Inspections of highway structures.

Responsibilities

• Lead General Inspections (GIs) and Principal Inspections (PIs) across highway structures.
• Plan and organise required consents from Network Rail and Environment Agency.
• Develop engineering options and supervise site surveys and construction works.
• Ensure compliance with Eurocodes, DMRB, MCHW and related standards.
• Assist budget planning, monitoring and reporting for projects.
