Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Civil/ highways design engineer to work within the Roads team across the Tees Valley region. You will contribute to active travel, digital design (3D modelling) and strategic and local network projects, collaborating with national highways and local authorities.

The role offers hybrid working, opportunities to lead design packages, mentor junior staff and progress towards chartered status, with training and career development supported by WSP’s Thrive,

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within highway design.
• Working towards IEng or CEng status with a professional institute.
• Highways design experience in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
• Experience of complying with Designers Duties under CDM
• Experience in AutoDesk Civils 3D is advantageous.
• An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
• NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
• A passion for design and developing innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with DMRB.
• Develop designs using AutoCAD and Civil3D.
• Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, pricing, deliverables and cost estimation.
• Be accountable for checking, certifying and authorising designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
• Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages coordinating engineering resources.
• Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders to deliver schemes/projects.
• Mentor and upskill more junior staff.
