Job summary

WSP is looking for a Highways Engineer to join our Local Government teams in Exeter or Taunton. You will contribute to major highways, bridges and infrastructure projects for local authorities, supported by colleagues across WSP.

The role offers hybrid working, strong development opportunities and access to health and wellbeing programmes such as Thrive, Virtual GP and Gymflex, with flexible leave options.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent experience within a highway design environment.
• Experience in multi-disciplinary highway design across different project stages.
• Technical knowledge in road geometry, junction design, active travel schemes, drainage systems, road restraint systems, and traffic signs/road markings.
• Proficiency in design software such as Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley OpenRoads Designer, InfoDrainage, and/or PDS.

Responsibilities

• Developing highway designs on multi-disciplinary projects through the various stages of the project lifecycle.
• Ensuring projects are delivered to programme, budget, technical standards, and legal requirements.
• Assisting Project Managers with planning, programming, technical input, pricing of project briefs, proposals, and cost estimation.
• Preparing design documentation, drawings, reports, and technical submissions.
• Working across a portfolio of varied multi-disciplinary projects simultaneously.
• Collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and internal teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Supporting site-based activities on an ad hoc basis, including supervision and monitoring contractor compliance with contract requirements.
