Job summary

WSP is seeking engineers for highway design roles across the Roads business in the UK. You will work with National Highways and Local Authority clients on active travel projects, digital design (3D modelling) and strategic network improvements.

The role offers diverse projects from Smart Motorways to local authority schemes, with opportunities to manage schemes and multi-disciplinary teams. A degree in Civil Engineering and progression towards professional status are expected.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent within a highway design role.
• Working towards IEng or CEng status with a professional institute. Professional qualifications are advantageous.
• Highways design experience in accordance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
• Experience of complying with Designers Duties under CDM.
• Experience in delivery geometric designs using AutoDesk Civils 3D is advantageous.
• An extensive knowledge and understanding of the relevant legislation, standards and procedures including the application of departures from standard.
• NEC and/or Project Management experience is advantageous.
• A passion for design and developing innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare designs and specifications in accordance with DMRB.
• Develop designs using AutoCAD, and Civil3D.
• Deliver work packages with scope to move up to managing schemes and multi-disciplinary teams.
• Provide support to Project Managers within the design team in planning, programming, technical input to the pricing of project briefs, proposals, deliverables and cost estimation.
• Be accountable for checking, certifying and authorising for issue designs, documents, approvals, and reports.
• Manage graduate engineers and technicians to deliver work packages coordinating engineering resources.
• Work collaboratively with clients and key stakeholders as necessary to deliver the schemes/projects.
• Mentor and upskill more junior staff helping them develop professionally and progress towards professional qualifications.
