Job summary

Newcastle City Council is seeking an experienced Workshop Operations Manager to lead a high‑performing vehicle maintenance operation for a diverse fleet of over 700 vehicles, plant and equipment. You will ensure safety, DVSA compliance, and operational availability to support essential council services.

You will manage Workshop Controllers and technicians, drive service improvements, and uphold a strong culture of safety, efficiency and sustainability across the fleet.

Qualifications

• Proven track record managing an HGV workshop or fleet maintenance operation.
• Knowledge of DVSA regulations and Operator Licence compliance.
• Experience using fleet maintenance management systems to schedule, service, inspect and MOTs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of a high-performing vehicle maintenance operation for a diverse fleet.
• Ensure the fleet remains safe, under Operator Licence compliance, reliable and available to support council services.
• Drive service improvement, promote safety and compliance, and support fleet sustainability initiatives.
