NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is offering a part-time Senior Healthcare Support Worker role at the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. The post involves 34.5 hours per week with rotational 12-hour shifts on a busy inpatient ward for children with complex needs.
Training includes Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and ventilation competency. A SVQ 3 or equivalent is required and induction will be provided.

Ward 3a is a busy acute inpatient ward which provides care for vulnerable children from across Scotland with highly complex needs across various specialties. Many learning and training opportunities exist in post, including long term ventilation skills, enteral feeding, monitoring and recording of vital signs. Our young people have many challenges and our team are honoured to be a small part of their life long journey. Candidates should have experience working with children and families and a keen interest in working with children with significant additional needs.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) may be able to provide visa sponsorship for certain roles, subject to the post meeting the relevant eligibility criteria. Training is provided to enable the Senior HCSW to comply with the Mandatory Induction Standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland 2020; and with the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers, both as amended from time to time.
Long term ventilation and tracheostomy training will be provided at ward level. Undertake essential for role completion of competency based Ventilation training programme within ward environment
SVQ 3 qualification or equivalent knowledge gained in a relevant area through experience, on the job training and short courses.
Understands and complies with HCSW mandatory induction standards and code of conduct.
Completion and maintenance of statutory & mandatory learning activities.
Awareness, understanding and compliance of policies and practices e.g. Escort Policy, Prevention and control of infection and Health and Safety. This post holder is therefore able to work within the scope of their practice under direct and indirect supervision by the registered nurse (training will be provided)
Can demonstrate knowledge of equipment used within the department to support the registered nurse and ensure that they are compatible and in good working order. Will elevate any concerns to a registered nurse.
