Job summary
Curtiss-Wright Corporation in the UK seeks a Senior Hardware Engineer for the Letchworth team. You will design rugged VPX-based computer systems and video products, liaising with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure fit-for-purpose, cost-effective solutions.
You will also maintain the product line, manage obsolescence, and perform environmental testing to RTCA/DO-160/MIL standards, with opportunities for travel. An aerospace background is advantageous.
Qualifications
- Educated to Degree/HND level in an appropriate technical subject.
- Experience in embedded systems, VPX PC cards integration, digital and analogue design.
- Familiar with high-end Intel Xeons & NXP Power-PC VPX SBCs.
- Familiar with Schematic design using ORCAD/Altium or similar.
- Familiar with PCIe interface operation and design.
- Familiar with DC-DC PSU design.
- Familiar with EMC design including MIL Spec. ruggedized video monitors.
- Ability to perform environmental testing to RTCA/DO-160, MIL810, MIL461 with reports.
- Board-level fault finding; production interfacing is advantageous.
- Experience in aerospace environment is advantageous.

- Oversee qualification tests (temperature, vibration, EMC) in-house and at test houses.
- Write formal design documentation and attend design reviews.
- Support junior colleagues in technical matters.
- Evaluate new technologies for product design introductions.
- Take technical responsibility for allocated design tasks.
- Assist production engineering with cost-effective manufacture introduction.
- May represent the Hardware function internally and externally.
- Infrequent UK and international travel as required.

We are looking for a Senior Hardware Engineer to join our Letchworth UK Team!
Our Curtiss Wright Avionics, Video and Systems unit with our HQ based in our state-of-the-art facility at Bournemouth Airport is looking for a Sr Hardware Engineer to join the design team in our Letchworth office. You will be responsible for implementing all aspects of the electronic design and development process, from initial concept through to the completion of sealed data packs. You will also liaise with software engineers, mechanical engineers, manufacturing and sales to ensure product is fit for purpose, cost effective and reliable.

- Relevant experience in embedded systems (Specifically at Letchworth, integration of VPX PC cards), digital and analogue design.
- Familiar with high end Intel Xeons & NXP Power-PC VPX single board computers
- Familiar with Schematic design using ORCAD/Altium or similar package.
- Familiar with PCIe interface operation and design.
- Familiar with DC-DC PSU design.
- Familiar with Design for EMC including MIL Spec. Ruggedized Video Monitors.
- Flexible and able to complete Environmental Testing to standards such as RTCA/DO-160/MIL810/MIL461, including detailed test specification and report writing.
- Ability to fault find down to a board level.
- Experience working closely with or in production is advantageous.
- Experience within an aerospace environment is advantageous.
