Job summary

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust is seeking a Hand Therapist (OT or PT) to join the hand therapy team based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage. The post offers progression from Band 5 to Band 6 for suitable applicants.

The role involves advanced hands assessment and treatment, including splinting and rehabilitation, with supervision and a team-based environment within the Musculoskeletal Service.

Qualifications

• Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy & HPC Registration.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology related to Hands and high interest in hand injuries, splinting and rehabilitation.
• Ability to establish excellent rapport with patients and the multi-disciplinary team.
• Evidence of planning, delivering and evaluating Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy process.
• Knowledge of / use of standardised assessment tools.
• Ability to problem solve, set treatment goals and clinically reason.
• Adaptable and flexible to meet demands of the service.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced assessment and treatment of hands and plastics patients including splinting and rehabilitation programmes.
• Maintain records as an autonomous practitioner and hold responsibility for own caseload.
• Undergo supervision through regular one-to-one sessions and peer review within the Hand Therapy Unit.
• Undertake evidence-based audit and contribute to service improvements and protocols.
