Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is seeking a Senior Grid Connections Engineer to support the Renewables Grid Connections team across the UK, delivering grid connection projects from feasibility to energisation. You will liaise with NESO, DNOs, TOs, ICPs and clients, applying expertise in power systems, Grid Code and G99 to optimise connection pathways, manage risk and ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related discipline.
• Experience delivering grid connection projects in the UK.
• Strong understanding of UK transmission & distribution networks (11kV–400kV).
• Familiarity with NESO, DNO, TO and Grid Code processes.
• Experience with G99, Grid Code compliance activities.
• Proficient in power system modelling software (DIgSILENT, IPSA, ETAP, PSS/E).
• Experience supporting renewable energy, BESS, onshore/offshore wind projects.
• Excellent technical report writing and presentation skills.
• Chartered Engineer status or progress toward chartership advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Technical assessment of grid connection designs, compliance requirements, and connection strategies.
• Coordinate grid connection applications, stakeholder interfaces, and technical interfaces with NESO, DNOs, TOs, ICPs, IDNOs and contractors.
• Conduct technical due diligence of connection offers, programmes and project risks.
• Review electrical designs relating to grid connection infrastructure including substations.
• Review grid compliance and power system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability).
• Oversee preparation of connection applications, Grid Code submissions, G99 and Gate 2 docs.
• Provide technical assurance of contractor and network designs for regulatory compliance.
• Support construction, commissioning and energisation activities with test plans.
• Identify and manage technical risks related to grid connection and delivery.
• Develop feasibility studies, conceptual designs, single line diagrams and reports.
• Support project delivery through programme management and stakeholder coordination.
• Mentor junior engineers and stay updated on Grid Code changes.
