Job summary

Alliance for Better Care is seeking a qualified GP to lead medical decisions within the Worthing Virtual Ward, covering 30–50 beds. The post is fixed-term for 18 months and requires GMC registration, CCT and travel across Sussex.

You will work hub-based on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays and remotely on Tuesdays and Thursdays, providing virtual consultations, medications reviews and supervision of the MDT, while maintaining patient-centred care and governance.

Qualifications

• Qualified GP with CCT and at least five years post-CCT experience.
• Experience in UK general practice and primary care settings.
• Knowledge of Sussex ICB and referral systems.

Responsibilities

• Lead medical decisions as senior clinical decision maker in the UCR team.
• Provide medical advice across triage, handovers, board rounds and on-call.
• Review and prescribe medications, supporting pharmacist reviews.
• Provide virtual consultations or home visits, request investigations and manage results.
• Identify deterioration and escalate care in line with patient wishes.
• Support patient management plans including RESPECT, DNAR and ceiling of care.
• Liaise with primary care, acute medical, palliative care and mental health teams.
• Supervise and develop the MDT, including ACPs, signposting training and learning.
• Keep accurate records on SystmOne and write discharge summaries.
• Contribute to clinical governance, audits and quality improvement with leads.
