Job summary

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Principal GIS Consultant to lead and deliver GIS services on major UK infrastructure projects. You will design digital solutions, manage data analytics, and work in multi-disciplinary teams to extract insights and drive insightful decision-making.

The role emphasizes client engagement, innovative workflows, and mentoring, within a hybrid working environment. A postgraduate GIS qualification and Chartered Geographer status are highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Postgraduate qualification in GIS, computer science, environmental management, geography or other relevant discipline
• Highly competent GIS Consultant with strong UK experience and client-orientated approach
• Experienced in leading large-scale geospatial project delivery, budgeting, task and resource planning and prioritisation
• Professional body qualification, preferably with the Royal Geographical Society (e.g. Chartered Geographer)
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS products, especially ArcGIS Online/Portal and ArcGIS Pro
• Experience in mobile data collection devices for surveys using ESRI ArcGIS apps for iOS/Android including ArcGIS Field Maps or Survey123
• Proactive communication and reporting skills with ability to collaborate effectively
• Strong business development skills with drive to grow these areas
• Experience in line management and mentoring of staff
• Deep knowledge of spatial analysis workflows and spatial data management
• Interest in applying latest technologies to real business problems
• Aptitude for scripting (SQL, Python, ESRI Arcade, R, JavaScript) and/or FME
• Some programming ability (Python, HTML/JavaScript/CSS with ArcGIS API)

• Lead, manage and deliver GIS services on complex projects
• Review and ensure technical excellence and standards
• Design, develop and implement digital solutions based on automation and data analytics
• Work in multi-disciplinary teams to gather requirements for integrated digital solutions
• Identify opportunities for improving workflows and efficiencies
• Identify data sources to inform project teams
• Support business development with technical input for bids
• Manage mobile data collection packages for field workers
• Collaborate with GIS team on standards and data management
• Mentor and line-manage team members
• Participate in knowledge sharing within the GIS community
