Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust seeks a dynamic, full-time substantive consultant gastroenterologist with a subspeciality interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. You will join a team of fourteen gastroenterologists and manage complex IBD cases across three Trust sites.

The role includes leading IBD MDTs, training IBD nurses, developing care pathways, and contributing to research portfolios. A 1:14 on-call rota and weekend duties form part of the schedule.

Qualifications

• CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine (or within 6 months of completion)
• MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
• Full GMC registration with license to practice

Responsibilities

• Independent care of patients with complex IBD
• Lead and contribute to IBD MDTs
• Support and training of the IBD nurses
• Foster close teamworking within the IBD team
• Developing IBD care pathways
• Support networking with internal and external providers
• Support IBD data collection/audit and database
• Implement national policies and GIRFT recommendations relating to IBD care
• Develop departmental IBD research portfolio
• Maintain CPD
• Endoscopy (elective, training, and inpatient emergency)
• Outpatient work (clinics, referral vetting, GP advice)
• Inpatient work (Consultant of the week to cover GI ward)
• Weekend work (1:14 on-call rota)

Education

Completed CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine

MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification

GMC registration with license to practice
