Job summary

West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is recruiting a dynamic, full-time substantive consultant gastroenterologist with an interest in Inflammatory Bowel Disease. You will join a fourteen-strong gastroenterology team and support IBD care across three sites.

The role requires a CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine, full GMC registration, and expertise in endoscopy, with on-call duties and opportunities to contribute to research and new pathways.

Qualifications

• CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine or equivalent is required.
• Full GMC registration with license to practice is required.
• MD or PhD is desirable or advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Independent care of patients with complex IBD.
• Actively lead and contribute to IBD MDTs.
• Support and training of the IBD nurses.
• Foster close teamworking within the IBD team.
• Support networking with internal and external providers.
• Support IBD data collection/audit and database.
• Implement national policies and GIRFT recommendations relating to IBD care.
• Endoscopy (Elective, training, and inpatient emergency).
• Outpatient work (clinics, referral vetting, GP advice).
• Inpatient work (Consultant of the week to cover GI ward).
• Weekend on-call cover 1:14 with on-site duties.
