Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Game Designer based in United Kingdom.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Game Designer with strong systems thinking and a solid background in developing large-scale mobile games. You will shape the core gameplay and meta systems, designing progression, in-game economies, rewards, and balancing to support long-term product growth. Working across the full feature lifecycle, you will turn creative concepts into well-documented, engaging player experiences and assess their impact through analytics and experimentation. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring that every feature is implemented in line with its design intent. This is a fully remote opportunity in a creative, product-focused environment that values ownership, innovation, and AI-enabled workflows.

Accountabilities
  • Gameplay and meta systems: Design, develop, and evolve core gameplay and meta systems, ensuring they work together to create engaging player experiences.
  • Progression and economy: Define and optimize progression systems, in-game economies, rewards, game balance, and difficulty.
  • System integration: Build meaningful connections between different game systems to support cohesive and sustainable gameplay.
  • Documentation: Create, maintain, and update Game Design Documents (GDDs) and detailed feature specifications.
  • Feature ownership: Lead features from initial concept and design through implementation, launch, and performance analysis.
  • Hypothesis testing: Develop design hypotheses and participate in A/B testing to validate ideas and improve the player experience.
  • Data-driven design: Use analytics and product metrics to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and guide design decisions.
  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Producers, Developers, UI/UX Designers, Analysts, Artists, and other specialists throughout development.
  • Implementation reviews: Review delivered features and ensure the final implementation aligns with the original design intent.
  • AI-enabled workflows: Use AI tools for research, idea generation, prototyping, documentation, and analysis as part of an AI-native approach to game design.
Requirements
  • Professional experience: At least 5 years of experience as a Game Designer on mobile projects, ideally in free-to-play (F2P), casual, or mid-core games.
  • Large-scale projects: Proven experience contributing to substantial game projects and managing complex design systems.
  • Product thinking: Strong understanding of not only how a feature works, but also why it matters to players and the overall product.
  • Unity knowledge: Basic proficiency with Unity, including configuration and building prototypes.
  • Portfolio: A portfolio showcasing games and projects you have contributed to.
  • Game design fundamentals: Strong understanding of core and meta loops, progression systems, and player retention mechanics.
  • AI proficiency: Comfortable using AI tools to support research, generate ideas, create prototypes, and produce design documentation.
Nice To Have
  • Experience taking a game from initial concept through launch and ongoing live-product development.
  • Advanced Unity skills and deeper technical knowledge.
  • Strong expertise in game balancing and in-game economies.
  • In-depth understanding of game monetization.
  • Experience designing games across multiple genres.
  • Background in online or social games.
  • Practical experience with LiveOps.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of other Game Designers.
Benefits
  • Flexible benefits budget: A personalized allowance that can be used for insurance, education, gym memberships, or other well-being needs.
  • Performance recognition: Bonuses recognizing strong results, initiative, teamwork, and meaningful contributions.
  • Remote-first culture: Fully remote work, with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the world.
  • Ownership and autonomy: Minimal bureaucracy, freedom to make decisions, and opportunities to bring your ideas to life.
  • Professional development: Opportunities to strengthen your expertise through learning initiatives, internal training, and strategic sessions.
