The Natural History Museum is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead architecture, development and deployment of SCRIBE, a platform for transcribing structured documents and exporting structured data. This role sits in the AI & Informatics team within the Digital, Data & Informatics division, collaborating with ML researchers across the UK.

You will own platform engineering, deployment strategy, and AI-service integration, balancing frontend and backend work in JavaScript and Python while

Qualifications

• Extensive experience building Python web apps and backend services (FastAPI or Flask).
• Strong JavaScript/TypeScript front-end with React or Vue.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and scalable cloud infrastructure (AWS).

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, development, and operational delivery of SCRIBE platform.
• Define deployment strategies and engineering standards for scalable systems.
