Job summary

National History Museum is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to lead architecture, development and deployment of SCRIBE, our platform for AI-assisted digitisation and structured data export. You will work with the AI & Informatics team to design scalable backend services and intuitive web interfaces.

You will lead technical decisions on system architecture, security, deployment workflows and integration of AI services, collaborating with ML researchers and domain experts across the UK.

Qualifications

• Experience developing Python web applications and backend services with FastAPI or Flask.
• Proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Experience designing RESTful APIs and secure, scalable cloud infrastructure (AWS).
• Strong collaboration with ML researchers and domain experts.
• Advocates accessibility and user-centred design in product delivery.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture, development and deployment of the SCRIBE platform.
• Provide technical leadership for platform engineering and deployment strategy.
• Design and implement robust, scalable services powering frontend interfaces.
• Collaborate with AI data scientists and UK partners to integrate AI processes.
• Ensure security, reliability and maintainability of production systems.
