Job summary

National History Museum seeks an experienced Data Scientist for a 12‑month project to develop an AI-powered knowledge extraction platform for the Biodiversity Heritage Library. Working within the AI & Innovation team and with international partners, you will help transform tens of millions of pages of biodiversity literature into a searchable, machine-readable research resource.

You will build reproducible data pipelines, tackle OCR-derived text, entity normalisation and prepare datasets for

Qualifications

• Strong Python skills and experience building reproducible data and ML pipelines.
• Experience with OCR-derived and unstructured text, annotation workflows, data quality assurance.
• Familiarity with knowledge graphs desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop an AI-powered knowledge extraction and discovery platform for biodiversity literature.
• Support data-engineering activities including OCR processing, annotation workflows and data quality assurance.
• Prepare training and evaluation datasets for NER, LLM-based extraction and evaluation.
