Job summary

ScienceMachine in London is seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to join the founding team, owning both product and infrastructure development. You will work across frontend interfaces used by scientists, API design, and deployment pipelines in a fast-moving environment.

You will design and build robust backend services with Python, manage Terraform-driven infrastructure on GCP, and contribute to production-grade systems while collaborating with scientists and the wider team.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of full stack engineering with Python backend/API development, modern React/Next.js/TypeScript, and REST APIs.
• PostgreSQL experience including schema design, migrations, indexing, and data modelling.
• Experience with Terraform-based cloud infrastructure, GCP, and Kubernetes.
• Strong CI/CD and Git workflow experience.
• Experience owning software products end-to-end from design to deployment, monitoring and debugging.
• Experience maintaining production services and migrations with minimal downtime.

Responsibilities

• Build product features across React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Design, build, and maintain Python backend APIs and cloud infrastructure with Terraform, Docker and Kubernetes on GCP.
• Improve reliability, scalability, and maintainability of production systems.
• Gather user feedback, identify opportunities, design practical solutions, and ship improvements quickly.
• Collaborate across frontend, backend, and infra to deliver multi-project work on tight schedules.
