Job summary

Northern Powergrid is building a new in-house software engineering team to design, build, and own key digital products for millions of users. You’ll work across frontend, backend, APIs, and cloud, with a human-led, AI-accelerated culture and a senior founding-member role to shape standards and delivery.

You will lead design decisions, mentor peers, and collaborate with partners to deliver scalable services, mobile apps, and data integrations while ensuring regulatory compliance and high-quality

Qualifications

• Degree in a relevant subject, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of production software experience with ownership of services in production.
• Breadth across the stack: front end, back end, APIs and cloud.
• Strong experience designing and building APIs and integrations.
• Experience with containerised applications and at least one major cloud platform (Azure preferred).
• Practical experience of AI-assisted development.
• Mentoring engineers through code review and design discussion.
• Experience with React/TypeScript and .NET (C#) or similar stacks.
• Experience shipping mobile applications, ideally offline-capable (React Native).

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of services and features across a modern stack.
• Help deliver mobile applications for field teams.
• Design and build APIs and abstraction layers to integrate data from diverse systems.
• Own quality through test-driven development, automated testing and CI/CD.
• Build and operate containerised services in the cloud (Azure with some AWS/OCI).
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools to accelerate delivery while maintaining quality and accountability.
• Shape AI-assisted engineering patterns for coding, testing, and developer experience.
• Mentor engineers through code review, pairing and design discussions.
