Working with the FP&A team and liaising very closely with the underwriting, actuarial (reserving & pricing teams) and reinsurance departments to fulfil the planning and management information functions of the International segment of Westfield Specialty
Key Accountabilities
Planning & Forecasting – GAAP (UK and US) for the Syndicate, Group & Westfield Executive management team:
- Lloyd’s Quarterly Monitoring Return B (QMB) – class of business forecast return production and quarterly submission
- Liaising with IT on generating technical data feeds
- Reconciliations to Actuarial data warehouse outputs
- Preparing the return for review by SMEs and submission to Lloyd’s
- Responding to Lloyd’s queries post submission
- Business partner to business units in London and Dubai:
- SBF Business Planning support / GAAP Training
- Premium and commission tracking
- Business case scenario forecasting and other ad hoc analysis
- Production Annual GAAP plans (US and UK GAAP)
- collating and gathering planning assumptions from other departments
- preparing assumptions for input into planning software (IBM Cognos TM1 planning model)
- generating output from modelled TM1 and non-modelled Plans (full P&L / Income Statement)
- Balance Sheet Planning/Forecasting
- Responsible for the financial MI planning packs for distribution to wider business
Management Information & Analysis:
- Carrying out regular meetings with underwriting divisions to discuss monthly premium tracking (GAAP and YOA), market conditions and AOB
- Accountable for Monthly premium tracking against plan, reporting and analysis and presentations
- Responsible for Power BI (US GAAP) Dashboard Reporting and sign-off process (monthly/quarterly)
- Quarterly Class of business reporting (GAAP income statements and actual v plan commentaries, including supporting underwriting Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs))
- Assisting Dubai Board Paper production (FP&A section – actual v plan analysis with commentary)
- Assist with Management Information packs for Board (WSMA and Europe)
- Other ad hoc Management Information and analysis as required
Role requirements
- Systems – Advanced Microsoft Office (Excel – e.g. macro / index/match / xLookup, PowerPoint, PowerBI), IBM Cognos TM1 planning model (or similar), and Oracle (desirable)
- Analytical - demonstrated ability to understand drivers and provide analysis on detailed Insurance P&Ls / Income Statements
- Flexible and committed – consistently able to deliver under tight deadlines
- Thorough / methodical - consistent high quality reliable output
- Inquisitive mindset – demonstrates curiosity and a proactive approach to understanding business drivers, continuously seeking opportunities to enhance reporting, processes, and decision-making.

- Proven track record in developing key management information with a specific emphasis on underwriting related information
- Ability to operate as a business partner within all areas of the Company/Group
- Coaching/mentoring a junior member of staff
- Lloyd’s Insurance business knowledge/experience essential (QMA/QMB)
- UK/US GAAP knowledge/experience essential
- 3 years + FP&A (or similar nature) and Business Partnering experience
- Experience working with a US head-office desirable
- Prior experience in a business facing role – specifically liaison with underwriting teams to identify and analyse plans, expectations, patterns and trends
- Prior experience, interaction and involvement with capital modelling desirable
- Qualified accountant, ACA, ACCA, CIMA
