Job summary

The Professional Practitioner within the Fostering Intervention Team (FIT) at Somerset Council in Taunton is a key role delivering evidence-based support to care-experienced children and their families. It includes leadership and supervision of Family Intervention Workers, overseeing complex cases, and contributing to multi-agency decision-making to secure permanence and stability.

The role is full-time (37 hours per week), 2-year fixed-term, with a Grade 10 salary range of £38,510 - £43,149 per

Qualifications

• Ideally a recognised professional qualification in social work, youth work, counselling, psychology, education, or a related field.
• Experience of working with care-experienced children and young people.
• Demonstrable knowledge of safeguarding, child development, trauma-informed practice, and attachment theory.
• Experience of providing professional leadership, mentoring, supervision, or guidance.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, mentoring, supervision to Family Intervention Workers.
• Oversee complex cases and quality assurance activities.
• Contribute to multi-agency decision-making and service development.
