Job summary

Somerset County Council is recruiting for a Family Intervention Worker to provide practical, whole-family support to disabled children and their families within the Effective Support for Children framework. You will work with families, other professionals and the Team Around the Child/Family to deliver coordinated, responsive services focused on outcomes and safeguarding.

The role is fixed-term for two years, full-time (37 hours per week) within the Families First Transformation programme, with

Qualifications

• Knowledge of child development and family relationships.
• Ability to promote equality, diversity and the interests of service users and carers.
• Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults.
• Knowledge of external resources, data and community services.
• Some experience of social care, but not necessarily in paid employment.
• Experience of working with children and young people.
• Contributes to induction of new Family Intervention Workers.
• Literate and numerate to GCSE level A-C/Level 4 or equivalent.
• Ability to produce basic correspondence, oral and written reports and records that are legible, accurate and easily understood.
• Ability to speak fluent English as stated in Part 7 of the Immigration Act (2016).
• Demonstrates empathy with client group and understanding and respect for individual needs.
• Demonstrates ability to prioritise work and organise competing demands.
• Excellent telephone manner and good listening and assessment skills.
• Able to develop professional relationships with a range of clients and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• Provide focused, practical support to disabled children and their families.
• Assess meaningful, hands-on interventions to strengthen relationships.
• Support families to meet children's needs in everyday home and community life.
• Work with the Team Around the Child/Family to ensure joined-up and responsive support.
• Help ensure children and young people feel included, safe and supported, improving wellbeing and life opportunities.
