Job summary

South Gloucestershire Council is seeking a Senior Family Support Worker in the Family Help Community team to provide relationship-based support from Targeted Early Help to the Child in Need threshold. You will case-hold, deliver evidence-based interventions with children and families, and coordinate multi‑agency support while maintaining clear records and timely reports.

Some duties may involve out-of-hours work and travel across the authority.

Qualifications

• Hold or work towards a professional qualification such as NVQ 4 or equivalent.
• Significant experience with children, young people and families and delivering evidence-based interventions.
• Knowledge of safeguarding legislation, procedures and risk assessment.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, including chairing meetings and coordinating multi‑agency support.
• Maintain clear records, write reports and use IT systems with professional judgement.

Responsibilities

• Case-hold Targeted Early Help and Child in Need work from assessment through to closure.
• Continue as Family Help Lead Practitioner when needs rise to Child in Need for continuity.
• Retain Lead Practitioner role when stepping up, ensuring continuity and trusted relationships.
