National Trust is seeking a Senior Facilities Manager for Stourhead to lead facilities management and operations across the property group. You will guide a team of staff, volunteers and placements, ensuring safety, compliance and sustainability standards while supporting conservation and visitor experiences.
You will manage traditional FM activities, contractor relationships and information systems, driving best value and performance within a complex heritage environment at one of our busiest
We’re looking for an experienced, safety-focused and commercially aware leader to join us as Senior Facilities Manager at Stourhead. This is a high-complexity role at the heart of one of our busiest and most-loved places, where you’ll take the operational lead for built assets, facilities and supporting services across the property group. You’ll champion excellent standards of maintenance, compliance, sustainability and team performance while contributing as a key member of the Property Leadership Team.
An 18th-century Palladian mansion set within a world-famous landscape garden, Stourhead is one of the National Trust’s best-loved and busiest properties. Working here means joining a passionate, collaborative team that takes pride in caring for this special place and creating exceptional experiences for visitors. From front-of-house colleagues sharing stories to gardeners, rangers and specialists protecting the estate for the future, everyone’s contribution matters. Together we celebrate successes, tackle challenges with energy, and support one another so that Stourhead continues to inspire people for generations to come.
As Senior Facilities Manager you’ll plan and deliver facilities management and wider operational support services of high complexity and risk. You’ll lead a team (staff, volunteers and placements) to maintain excellent standards in the operation and maintenance of built assets, with a clear focus on safety, compliance and sustainability.
You’ll take day-to-day operational leadership for the built assets—understanding their condition, purpose and performance, agreeing management strategies and maintenance plans, and delivering both routine/planned and reactive works that support conservation and strategic goals. You’ll oversee traditional soft FM activities and wider operational support services that enable other functions to operate effectively, and may take responsibility for business services delivery through your team.
You’ll identify and mitigate safety and compliance requirements arising from ownership and use of the assets, champion good contractor management and CDM regulations, and lead on technical issues for the portfolio. You’ll ensure key operations and maintenance information is accurate and accessible, and lead the use of the built asset management system (and other relevant systems) for your sites.
Through robust planning, performance monitoring and continuous improvement you’ll deliver services efficiently and at best value, managing delegated operating, maintenance and project budgets typically in excess of £350k. You’ll drive sustainability in energy, waste, water and the supply chain, and manage some small/medium maintenance projects while acting as a key stakeholder on wider works.
As a member of the Property Leadership Team you’ll share collective responsibility for the effective operation of the overall property and delivery of the People & Place plan. You’ll create a positive, productive environment for staff and volunteers, recruit and develop people, set clear objectives and give feedback. You may also carry out duty management as agreed locally and deputise for the General Manager.
You’ll bring a broad range of the following knowledge, skills and experience, shaped by different roles, sectors or career paths. Please use your application to demonstrate how you meet the criteria below:
