Job summary

Derbyshire County Council’s Early Years Special Educational Needs (EYSEN) Service is seeking an experienced Specialist Teacher to join our team and help improve inclusion for young children with SEND across Derbyshire.

You will provide specialist assessment, advice and coaching to early years settings, work in partnership with families and professionals, and travel across a large geographical area to meet role requirements.

Qualifications

• Qualified teacher with substantial experience in Early Years and supporting children with SEND.
• Strong understanding of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage.
• Knowledge of neuro-affirming and trauma-informed practice.
• Experience of assessing need, planning outcomes and implementing strategies for children with significant or complex needs.
• Ability to translate specialist knowledge into clear, achievable advice for families and practitioners.
• Excellent communication, relationship-building and collaborative working skills.
• Willingness to travel across Derbyshire to meet role requirements.

Responsibilities

• Manage a varied caseload of young children with significant and complex SEND.
• Observe and assess children, identify strengths and barriers to participation, and agree clear outcomes with practitioners.
• Provide practical specialist advice, strategies, modelling and coaching for inclusive practice and the assess-plan-do-review cycle.
• Work collaboratively with parents/carers, SENCOs, early years practitioners, health professionals and partner agencies.
• Support effective transitions into, between and from early years provision.
• Plan and deliver training, briefings and professional development for early years practitioners and other professionals.
• Maintain high-quality records, reports and advice in line with legislation and council procedures.
• Contribute to service development, quality assurance and local priorities for early identification and inclusion.
