Job summary

Carrington West is seeking a Senior Estimator for its Energy & Rail practice in Glasgow. This hybrid role combines three days in the office with two days at home, and offers a competitive package up to £85,000 per year (DOE).

You will lead detailed cost estimates for major energy infrastructure, including overhead lines, substations and rail, while shaping estimating practices and mentoring junior staff. This is a key role in a growing, financially secure organisation.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Estimator or Estimator taking greater responsibility in Energy and Rail.
• Experience producing detailed cost estimates for complex energy/rail projects.
• Background in power transmission, substations, overhead lines or cabling is advantageous.
• Good grasp of estimating methodologies and pricing structures.

Responsibilities

• Own detailed cost estimates for major energy infrastructure projects including overhead lines and rail works.
• Prepare pricing breakdowns for labour, plant, materials, equipment and overheads.
• Review drawings, specs, and documents to determine construction requirements and costs.
• Undertake quantity take-offs and cost calculations.
• Assess methodologies, programmes and resource needs for pricing accuracy.
• Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations to secure competitive costs.
• Identify pricing risks and opportunities for value engineering.
• Support handover of estimates to delivery teams and contribute to process improvement.
